What is a serum? What makes them so special? When do you use them? These are all questions that swirl in our heads when we hear about the magic potion they call SERUM.
Serum is a great product to incorporate into your normal skin care routine. They give your face the added boost you never knew you needed.
Serums penetrate your skin on a deeper cellular level and deliver a high concentration of active ingredients like hyaluronic acid. It isn’t used instead of your moisturizer, but instead it compliments and works with your moisturizer. Think of moisturizer as sealing all the goodness your serum has to offer your face.
Most serums contain antioxidants, nutrients, and vitamins that work to reverse the causes of aging and skin damage, making your skin look radiant and smooth all the time! The question is: How can you incorporate this product to your skincare routine? Simply follow the steps below:
Step 1: Apply serum to your face and neck right after cleansing and toning your skin. You can apply it twice a day: once in the morning and before going to bed. If you are layering more than one serum, go from lightest to heaviest.
Step 2: Give your skin a few minutes to absorb the serum and then apply your favorite moisturizer. Applying moisturizer afterward will help to prevent the evaporation of moisture and will also provide a barrier to protect your skin from external agents.
Step 3: If it’s daytime, apply sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun damaging rays and then apply your makeup if needed.
There are so many serums that target specific skin care needs, first assess what you are trying to accomplish. Are you trying to plump the skin? Are you trying to increase cell regeneration? Or maybe you need some extra moisture. First know your skin, what it needs, and which serum will target those problem areas. Happy hunting!
